The 270 degree dial is reminiscent of the Aston Martin Dashboard. The Amvox Alarm also borrows much of its design inspiration from the Polaris - the diving watch from the 1960s - including the unequal hand lengths, typeface, holes in the caseback, and built-in alarm feature. The beautiful dial offers high contrast, making the time easily legible. The alarm is set by the crown situated at the 2 o'clock position. Pull the crown to set it, push it in to activate it. The alarm can be set to within 3 minutes of accuracy. The hammer that strikes the alarm requires manual winding, and it benefits the wearer in that it allows him to set how long he would like the alarm to ring. Ringing can be suspended by pulling out the top crown. The alloyed gong is screwed to the inner caseback to produce the ideal sonorous chime through an ingenious and highly elaborate spring and hammer system. The crown at 4 o'clock sets the time and because of the stop-seconds function, the time can be set to the precise second. The gorgeous soft leather band matches exactly the leather used to upholster Aston Martin's vehicles. The sapphire crystal deserves some discussion. It is domed, but unlike similar domed sapphire crystals, it rises an impressive 3mm above the horizontal. The case back is elegantly crafted to Jaeger's exacting standards. The winged Aston Martin logo appears in the center, and right beside it, the '1000 hours control' engraving - since every Amvox 1 is rigorously tested before shipping. The JLC918 is based on the JLC914, but with an update to the bearing mechanism (they are now ceramic). Since 1833, when the inventive Charles Antoine LeCoultre established this venerable watchmaker, it has produced some of the most outstanding and innovative timepieces. It wasn't until 1931, however, that the Jaeger-LeCoultre brand rose to international fame. It was then that the Reverso - an ingenious reversible watch - was unveiled to the public.
